97 attacks hit U.S. bases in Syria, Iraq – Pentagon official

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The Pentagon announced on Thursday that Iranian proxies in Iraq and Syria have launched 97 attacks against U.S. bases in the region since Oct. 17.
The U.S.-led Global Coalition and U.S. bases have been targeted almost daily since the Israel-Hamas conflict started on Oct. 7.
A Pentagon official stated to Al-Jazeera Network that between Oct. 17 and Dec. 13, 97 rocket and drone attacks targeted U.S. and Global Coalition forces in Syria and Iraq.
On Wednesday, three rocket and drone attacks targeted U.S. bases in the town of Shaddadi in northeastern Syria, and Deir ez-Zor Governorate, eastern Syria, in addition to al-Tanf U.S. garrison, in southern Syria, abutting the mutual border between Syria, Iraq and Jordon.
Former U.S. Ambassador to Syria, Robert Ford, affirmed the Biden administration’s commitment to keep U.S. forces in northeastern Syria.
Most of the attacks were successfully countered by U.S. forces in Syria and Iraq, the official noted.
