Coalition intercepts strikes by Iranian militias in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – The US-led Global Coalition’s air defense system intercepted on Thursday at down a missile barrage launched by Iranian-backed militias from their controlled areas in Deir ez-Zor Governorate, east Syria, targeting a Coalition base.

A military source in the Koniko oil field in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor stated that the air defense system of the Global Coalition forces intercepted and shot down a drone, as well as several missiles launched by Iranian-backed militias to target the base in the field.

He added that approximately five missiles fell in the vicinity of the Koniko field without causing any damage.

Following the attack, the Global Coalition forces conducted patrols in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, and drones, helicopter, and warplanes flew along the river.

Since Oct. 17, U.S. bases in Syria and Iraq have sustained 90 attacks by Iranian-backed militias, which have resulted in the injury of 62 American personnel, the Pentagon previously stated.
