SDF thwarts attack by government-linked militants in Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North press) – The Hajin Military Council, part of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), announced on Wednesday thwarting an infiltration attempt by militants affiliated with Syrian government forces in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, in eastern Syria.
The Euphrates River serves as a dividing line between the areas controlled by government forces and Iranian militias on the western bank, and those held by the SDF and the U.S.-led Global Coalition on the eastern bank. The SDF continues to report attacks on its outposts in the region by militants linked to Iranian militias and government forces.
The Hajin Military Council said in a statement that its forces thwarted an infiltration operation by militants who aimed to attack the council’s military posts in the town of al-Jarzi in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.
It added that the militants came from areas under the control of the government in the western bank of Euphrates.
On Wednesday, a military source in the SDF reported that several attacks targeted SDF posts and checkpoints in villages and towns in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, carried out by unidentified gunmen.
The Hajin Military Council said that its forces combed the nearby village of Hawaij and seized ammunition and artillery shells left by the “mercenaries” of the Syrian government.
