Unknown individuals attack SDF checkpoints in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Unidentified gunmen attacked on Wednesday checkpoints and headquarters of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, east Syria.
The banks of the Euphrates in Deir ez-Zor are witnessing security tensions and a state of instability due to the activities of the Islamic State (ISIS) cells and armed groups affiliated with the Syrian government forces and Iranian-backed militias.
An SDF military source in Deir ez-Zor said that unidentified gunmen targeted an SDF checkpoint at the entrance of the village of Briha in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor with RPGs and machineguns. No casualties were reported.
The source added that other individuals attacked, with machineguns, an SDF military checkpoint in the town of Shuhail, east of Deir ez-Zor, which followed by clashes.
In another incident, unknown gunmen attacked an SDF headquarters in the town of al-Buneital, near al-Suwar town, north of Deir ez-Zor, with machineguns, resulting in material losses, the source said.
On the opposite bank of the Euphrates, a military source from the National Defense Forces (NDF), affiliated with the government forces, stated that an unidentified armed individual riding a motorcycle targeted two militants of the NDF with gunfire near the main road in the town of Mahkan, east of Deir ez-Zor.
The source further explained that the attack resulted in the killing of Doreid al-Sabri, 27, and the injury of Nouri al-Ali, both are NDF militants.
