Mortar shells fall near U.S. base in Syria’s Hasakah

HASAKAH, Syria (North press) – On Monday, five mortar shells landed near the town of Shaddadi in southern Hasakah, northeastern Syria, in close proximity to a base of the U.S.-led Global Coalition.

A source from the U.S. base told North Press correspondent that three unidentified shells fell around civilian homes in the villages of al-Hariri and Tel Hamad, causing material damage. The two villages are located between the towns of Shaddadi and Arisha in the southern countryside of Hasakah.

A local source from Shaddadi said that another two shells fell in the town, one on its eastern outskirts, and another on the Water Directorate of Shaddadi, affiliated with the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), causing material damage.

Iranian-backed militias have been targeting the U.S.-led Global Coalition’s bases in Syria and Iraq since the outbreak of the war in Gaza on Oct. 7.

The source from the U.S. base suggested that the shells had originated from Iran-backed militants.
