Turkish authorities transfer 12 Syrian detainees to prisons in Turkey

AFRIN, Syria (North Press) – Turkish authorities transferred on Thursday 12 Syrian detainees, including three young women, from a prison in north of the city of Afrin, northwestern Syria, to prisons in Turkish territory on charges of espionage for the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).

In November, the Turkish intelligence transferred more than 60 Syrian detainees from prisons held by Turkish-backed factions of the Syrian National Army (SNA) in the regions of of Tel Abyad, Sere Kaniye, and Afrin, as well as from the Sijo prison in south of the city of Azaz, to their prisons in Turkey.

An official from the SNA’s Military Police told North Press that the Turkish intelligence, in coordination with the Military Police, transferred 12 detainees from the Kafr Jannah prison, north of Afrin, to Turkey through the al-Hamam border crossing in Afrin this morning.

He added that the detainees had been held in the prison for three months after being arrested while attempting to cross into Turkish territory. They were charged with espionage for the PKK.

The source noted that among the detainees were three young women: Sahar Khani, 20, Jouri Surur, 22, and Arwa Muhammad, 27.
