Syrian Embassy in Riyadh to soon resume services

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Embassy in Saudi Arabia announced on Thursday that it would resume its consular services after next week.

Ayman Soussan, the newly appointed ambassador to Saudi Arabia, took on Wednesday the legal oath before Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

The Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said in a statement that starting from Dec. 17, the Syrian Embassy in Riyadh will receive citizens to provide consular services.

The ministry added that the embassy’s resumption of work will be as part of its commitment to process Syrian citizens’ documents easily and on time.

On May 9, the Syrian government announced resuming its diplomatic mission in Riyadh, following a similar decision by the latter, after a decade of severed relations between the two countries.

On April 12, Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad arrived in Jeddah on the first official visit, marking the initial steps towards normalization between Syria and Saudi Arabia.

In October, the Syrian Embassy in Riyadh was reopened after a decade-long hiatus.

The ministry emphasized that it welcomes Syrian citizens in Saudi Arabia without intermediaries.
