Prominent SDF leader killed in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor
RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced on Wednesday that a prominent leader who participated in the fight against the Islamic State (ISIS) was killed in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.
The SDF Media Center said that Roni Walat/ Sherwan Hassan, a member in the SDF Military Council and a member in Deir ez-Zor Military Council, was killed in a “terrorist” attack, as he was targeted while he was on duty.
Walat participated in battles against ISIS in Tel Abyad, Raqqa, Manbij, Tabqa, and Deir ez-Zor, as well as he was the leader of the battle to liberate the town of Hajin, eastern Deir ez-Zor.
The statement also mentioned that Walat participated in the formation of the Self-Defense Forces, reconciliation operations, and negotiations in recent developments in Deir ez-Zor. He also played a crucial role in the re-building process in Deir ez-Zor.
