DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The so-called Islamic Resistance in Iraq, Iranian-backed group, claimed responsibility on Wednesday for targeting the U.S. military airbase of Ain al-Asad in the Anbar Governorate in western Iraq with a one-way attack drone.
The Islamic Resistance said in a statement that “the mujahideen” of the Islamic Resistance in Iraq targeted the U.S. airbase with a one-way attack drone that hit its target directly.
Iranian-backed militias have claimed responsibility for over 70 attacks against U.S. bases in Syria and Iraq since the onset of the Israel-Hamas conflict on Oct. 7.
“The attack was a revenge for our people in Gaza,” according to the statement.
On Dec.4, the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced the killing of five militants in Iraq in a drone attack conducted within the framework of self-defense. The attack took place a day earlier after notifying Iraqi forces.
