Turkish soldiers kill 9-year-old child on border with Syria

SERE KANIYE, Syria (North Press) – Turkish border guards on Saturday opened fire on a group of Syrians who tried to cross the border to Turkey from Hasakah Governorate in northeast Syria, killing a 9-year-old child and injuring others.

A source from the Military Police, a formation operates in the occupied areas in northern Syria and directly affiliated to the Turkish army, said that early on Saturday a group of individuals was targeted by the Turkish border guards while trying to cross into Turkish territories.

The child, Raad Malik Ya’rub, succumbed to his injuries hours after being shot by the border guards while attempting to cross, along with his brother and 13 others individuals, from the village of Alouk, east of the city of Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain), into Turkey.

An official at Sere Kaniye Hospital in the city of Hasakah said Ya’rub died after undergoing abdominal surgery to remove the bullet. Despite the success of the surgery, he said, he succumbed to extensive blood loss.

The official added that the condition of Mowafaq Ya’rub, 23, Raad’s brother, is currently under observation as he was shot in the back.
