New Israeli airstrikes rock Damascus

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Israeli airstrikes targeted early on Saturday several locations on the outskirts of the Syrian capital Damascus, resulting in material damages, Syrian media outlet reported.

The state-run SANA news agency said citing an unnamed military source from the Syrian government forces, “At approximately 01:35 am, the Israeli enemy carried out an aerial aggression from the direction of the occupied Syrian Golan, targeting some points in the vicinity of Damascus.”

SANA added that the Syrian air defenses shot most of the missiles down. The strikes caused only material losses.

Since the start of the Israel-Hamas war on Oct. 7, Israel has targeted several sites in Syria multiple times. Israel claims these strikes target weapons warehouses linked to Iranian-backed militias.

On Nov. 26, Israeli airstrikes targeted the Mezzeh military airport and Damascus International Airport, both located east of Damascus. The strikes put both airports out of service.

Following the attack on both airports, an exclusive source told North Press that an Iranian transport plane, carrying Iranian military personnel, was en route to the Mezzeh airport when the strikes occurred.

The plane, consequently, diverted its route and landed at the Tadmur military airport in central Syria, which is currently under Russian control, according to the source.
