US-sanctioned SNA faction beat civilians in Syria’s Afrin
AFRIN, Syria (North Press) – A faction of the Turkish-backed armed opposition, aka the Syrian National Army (SNA), beat on Friday a woman and her daughter in Afrin region, northwestern Syria.
A source from the city of Afrin said militants of Sultan Suleiman Shah Division, aka al-Amshat, beat a woman with her child girl and arrested her husband in the town of Jindires, 20 km west of the Afrin.
The al-Amshat militants also arrested three other men charged with dealing with third parties, the source told North Press.
The militants raided the house of Muhammad Sheikho arresting him along with three others who were visiting him, the source added. They also beat his wife Ghossoun and her child girl Ala’.
The source pointed out that the wife was hospitalized as she suffered from broken bones. The men, however, were moved to a prison in the town of Sheikh Hadid (Shiyeh) which is under the control of al-Amshat.
It is worth mentioning that in August, al-Amshat was sanctioned by the US Department of Treasury over “serious human rights abuses” in northern Syria.
The SNA factions continue to commit human rights violations against the original Kurdish people of Afrin under false pretexts of dealing with the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES).
Afrin has been under the occupation of Turkey and has been controlled by the SNA factions since 2018 following a military operation dubbed Olive Branch to push away the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) under the pretext of protecting the “Turkish national security.”
