Two bodies of missing Syrians found in Bulgaria

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The bodies of two individuals from the countryside of the city of Qamishli, northeastern Syria, were found two days ago in a Bulgarian hospital after they had been missing for 11 days.

On Nov. 17, 48-year-old Aref Taher and his 19-year-old nephew Azzaddin Taher, both hail from the town of Tirbe Spiyeh (al-Qahtaniya), east of Qamishli, were en route to Germany through Serbia when all contact was lost with them.

Shepal Taher, Aref’s brother, revealed to North Press that they learned about their deaths when a relative, who is a Bulgarian citizen, reported their names to all hospitals in Bulgaria. This step was taken after extensive search efforts failed to locate them in Turkey and Serbia.

Taher added that they obtained information indicating that the Serbian authorities arrested a group of migrants, which included his brother and nephew, and pushed them to Bulgarian forests.

He pointed out that the cause of their death is still unknown, amid suspicions that the victims were shot dead by unknown individuals.

Taher said that Bulgarian authorities are waiting for the forensic report before obtaining approval to transfer both bodies to Qamishli, where they will be laid to rest.
