SDF meeting assesses work, discusses military developments in NE Syria
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Military Council of the Syrian Democratic forces (SDF) held on Wednesday its regular meeting to discuss recent Turkish attacks on northeast Syria and the military developments in Deir ez-Zor Governorate, eastern Syria.
The SDF’s Media Center said the meeting was attended by Commander in Chief of the SDF, Mazloum Abdi, and leaders of all military councils that constitute the SDF. It served the purpose of assessing the performance of the SDF in the past three months, according to the statement.
The statement added the meeting emphasized “the importance of preventing the northern and eastern regions of Syria from becoming a battleground for conflicts and settling scores between regional and international powers.”
It highlighted Turkey’s attempts to take advantage of the global focus on the Israel-Hamas war to escalate its attacks on Northeast Syria. In addition, the attendants discussed strategic plans on how to counter such attacks.
Additionally, the discussion stressed that attacks conducted by armed groups affiliated with the Syrian government forces and Iranian-backed militias in Deir ez-Zor aim to cause discord and chaos, warning that the government forces would continue their efforts to “perpetuate strife.”
Moreover, the meeting broadly discussed the SDF’s readiness for possible conflicts, with specific focus on the Deir ez-Zor Military Council.
