HTS arrests civilians in IDP camp in Syria’s Idlib

IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – On Tuesday, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS, formerly al-Nusra Front) arrested 17 civilians in the Atmeh IDP camp in northern Idlib Governorate, northwestern Syria, on charges of inciting against the HTS and its top leader, Abu Muhammad al-Julani.

Since Jun. 18, the HTS has repeatedly arrested militants and leaders within its own ranks, in addition to civilians, accusing them of collaboration with foreign entities and inciting against the extremist group.

A source from the camp administration told North Press that the HTS-linked General Security Service (GSS) raided 30 tents in the western part of the camp this evening.

Charged with inciting against the HTS and preparing for anti-HTS protests, the source added, 17 IDPs were arrested out of 40 wanted individuals.

The source further stated that the raid lasted for about two hours, adding that the HTS demanded the families of wanted individuals to inform on their wanted relatives under the threat of harassing them if they not comply.
