EU grants €15 million for vulnerable people in Syria, Lebanon

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The European Commission announced on Friday €11.5 million for Syria and €3.5 million for Lebanon for the most vulnerable people, including refugees and Lebanese people in need.

The European Commission said in a press release that the funding will provide food assistance and water, sanitation and hygiene support for those who need it the most.

“The assistance aims to cover the needs of Syrians both inside the country as well as those of refugees and vulnerable people in Lebanon,” according to the source.

The funding comes at a time when the recent violence escalation in the Middle East is increasingly affecting countries such as Syria and Lebanon.

The assistance will be delivered via NGOs, UN agencies and international organizations, the source added.

Late in March, the European Commissioner for Crisis Management Janez Lenarčič announced €60 million for the most vulnerable people in Lebanon, including Syrian refugees.

About four million people, including 1.5 million Syrian refugees and 2.2 million vulnerable Lebanese, need humanitarian assistance.

Syrian IDPs and refugees in Lebanon who live in informal settlements and collective shelters go through severe and substandard conditions.
