HTS to evacuate, dismantle IDP camp in Syria’s Idlib

IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – On Thursday, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS, formerly known as al-Nusra Front) informed the residents of a makeshift camps near the village of Haranabush in northwestern Idlib Governorate, northwestern Syria, to evacuate within 24 hours.

The eviction of IDP camps in the countryside of Idlib is being repeated for various reasons. Sometimes it is driven by financial gains, while other times it is a punishment for those residents who oppose HTS’ authority and do not show absolute obedience.

An administrator in the local council of Harbnoush told North Press that HTS has notified the families residing in the camp to evacuate within 24 hours, with penalties imposed for those who refuse.

He added that 55 families are residing in this small camp which consists of 38 tents. The directive comes under the pretext that the land belongs to the HTS which has decided to establish a military gas station in the camp’s location.
