IRGC evacuates 2 headquarters in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) vacated on Tuesday two of its headquarters, in favor of the National Defense Forces (NDF), affiliated with the Syrian government forces, in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, a governorate east Syria.
A military source in Deir ez-Zor told North Press that the IRGC evacuated one of its main headquarters in al-Shifa Hospital in the town of al-Asharah in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, as well as another headquarters in the town of al-Mayadin in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.
The source noted that the evacuation came two days after a visit by an Iranian delegation to the two headquarters.
On Nov. 19, North Press was informed that a high-level delegation consisting of Iranian generals entered the town of al-Mayadin, accompanied by Haj Hussein, the IRGC commander in Deir ez-Zor, and Haj Kamil, a leader in the Lebanese Hezbollah party.
The delegation held a meeting with three officers of the Iranian-backed Liwa Fatemiyoun and Haras al-Qura (village guards) militia in al-Shifa Hospital. Reportedly, the meeting discussed the US strikes on Iranian headquarters in Deir ez-Zor and the relocation of the headquarters.
During the coming days, additional headquarters will be evacuated without clear reasons. The relocation of the headquarters was discussed during the meeting, according to the source.
Local militants who were present in the evacuated headquarters were relocated to nearby headquarters, while foreign militants were transferred to the eastern countryside of Homs, central Syria, according to the source.
On Nov. 19, Iranian-backed militias evacuated a number of headquarters in Deir ez-Zor and moved them to Homs.
One the same day, a militant of the IRGC was killed and three others were injured in an armed attack that targeted their vehicle in the town of al-Boleel, east of Deir ez-Zor.
