2 people injured by Turkish border guards in Syria’s Tel Abyad

TEL ABYAD, Syria (North Press) – Two individuals were shot at and injured and 23 others were arrested on Tuesday by Turkish border guards while they were all attempting to cross the border into Turkey from the countryside of the city of Tel Abyad, northern Syria.

On Nov. 11, two individuals hail from the countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria, were killed by Turkish border guards while they were crossing the Turkish-Syrian border.

A military source told North Press that the Turkish border guards in the observation tower overlooking the village of al-Issawi, around 11 km east of Tel Abyad, opened fire on 25 Syrians while they were attempting to cross the border.

The source added that the shooting resulted in the injury of two individuals from the group, one of whom is in a critical condition.

The source further noted that the injured individuals, Mahdi al-Jumaili and Gaith al-Zayadneh, were taken by Turkish border guards to Turkey. The other 23 Syrians, including eight women with their children, were arrested and subsequently transferred to a detention center in the Turkish town of Tel al-Abyad, which is adjacent to the Syrian border city of Tel Abyad.
