Iranian-backed militias evacuate headquarters in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Iranian-backed militias evacuated on Saturday a number of headquarters in Deir ez-Zor, a governorate east Syria, and moved them to Homs in central Syria.
A military source from Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) told North Press that the IRGC evacuated a headquarters in al-Jam’yat neighborhood in the town of Abu Kamal and another near Ain Ali shrine in the city of al-Quriyah in Deir ez-Zor eastern countryside.
Posts of the Iranian-backed militias in Deir ez-Zor have recently fallen under US aerial attacks. This comes a response to attacks against the US bases in both Syria and Iraq, according to the Pentagon.
The military source added that the IRGC moved militants and equipment from the two aforementioned headquarters to Homs.
Moreover, the Iranian-backed Liwa Fatemiyoun evacuated three of its headquarters in the vicinity of al-Mayadin, a town in the eastern countryside of the governorate, and moved its militants to the town of al-Sukhnah, eastern Homs “without elaborating about the reasons.”
The evacuation of headquarters followed a meeting by the IRGC leaders, Iranian-backed militias, and National Defense Forces (NDF), according to the source that expected more headquarters would be evacuated in the coming days.
It went further, adding that so far no other militias have been assigned to operate within the evacuated headquarters.
Vast swathes of the Syrian Desert and the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor are run by Iranian-backed militias and the Syrian government forces.
