RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – On Saturday evening, the Islamic Resistance in Iraq, a coalition of Iran-backed militias in Iraq, claimed responsibility for targeting a US base in southern Syria.
The Pentagon said on Friday that US sites and bases in in Syria and Iraq have been subjected to 61 attacks since Oct. 17 by Iran-backed militias, with 29 in Iraq and 32 in Syria.
The Islamic Resistance in Iraq stated, through official accounts, that they targeted the US base in al-Tanf, in southern Syria near the border with Iraq and Jordon.
They further added that they targeted the base with a drone and “directly hit” it, according to their statement.
They indicated that their targeting of the base was in response to the US stance on the Israel-Hamas conflict which started on Oct. 7 following a cross-border attack by Hamas militants from Gaza on Israeli communities.
