HTS raids faculty in Syria’s Idlib, arrests students
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – On Saturday, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS, formerly al-Nusra Front) arrested students in the Faculty of Arts in Idlib University, affiliated with Salvation Government which is the civil wing of the HTS, on charges of inciting against al-Julani, HTS’ top leader.
Idlib is witnessing a state of discontent over the arbitrary arrests and the restrictions imposed by HTS on residents, amid accusations against its leader of betrayal.
An administrator at the Faculty of Arts stated that the HTS’ General Security Service (GSS) raided a lecture hall in the faculty and arrested seven students on charges of incitement against al-Julani and spreading discord.
The source added to North Press that this act by the GSS against the university students is the third of its kind since the beginning of September, noting it has taken place with no coordination with the university administration and respect for its privacy.
On Oct. 10, HTS raided the Faculty of Dentistry and arrested a university teacher and employees. They were charged with incitement but were not given the opportunity for public trials.
