Assad grants general amnesty for crimes committed before Nov. 16

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Syrian President Bashar al-Assad issued a legislative decree on Wednesday granting a general amnesty for crimes committed prior to November 16, 2023.

In late 2022, al-Assad also issued a similar decree for all crimes committed by Syrians before December 21, 2022.

The decree provides complete exoneration from penalties for individuals covered by the amnesty.

However, the decree stipulates that it does not apply to those who are in hiding or evading justice unless they surrender themselves within three months for fugitives within the country and six months for those who are outside the country.
