HTS arrests 26 IDPs in camp in Syria’s Idlib

IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – On Wednesday, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS, formerly al-Nusra Front), arrested 26 people in an IDP camp in northern Idlib Governorate, northwestern Syria.

HTS has carried out arrest campaigns for months across areas under its control in Idlib, detaining wanted individuals and leveling accusations against them including “collaboration and instigation.”

Sources within the Berdaqli IDP camp told North Press that the HTS’ General Security Service (GSS) cordoned off the camp and conducted an arrest operation, resulting in the detention of 26 individuals, including some who are under 18.

Responding to the arrests, unknown attackers targeted with machine guns a vehicle transporting HTS members, seriously wounding a militant named Uday Hamzawi.

The sources added that after the HTS member was injured, the GSS militants remained encircling the camp in an attempt to uncover the perpetrators.
