Syrian drivers protest decision by opposition’s Interim Government

ALEPPO, Syria (North Press) – On Monday, dozens of Syrian drivers in the city of Azaz, in northern Syria, organized a protest in response to a decision made by the Syrian opposition’s Interim Government, which, they say, has affected their livelihoods.

During the protest, one of the Syrian drivers informed North Press that the problem revolves around the unfair decision to allow Turkish cargo drivers to enter Syria with their goods and transport them directly to their intended destinations. This is in contrast to unloading the cargo at the border crossings and then transferring it to Syrian trucks for further transportation.

The source further added that transportation work used to be a collaborative effort between Syrian and Turkish drivers. However, the decision made by the Interim Government, the political wing of the Turkish-backed Syrian National Army (SNA), completely halted the involvement of Syrian trucks and restricted the transportation exclusively to Turkish trucks. As a result, dozens of Syrian drivers have suffered a loss of income.

The source further added that several protests had been organized before but in vain.

The protesters installed a protest tent on the road connecting Azaz to Bab al-Salama border crossing, in north of Azaz.
