British ISIS convict apologizes to Syrians over atrocities
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Over causing “more harm than good,” a British Islamic State (ISIS) militant has apologized to Syrian people as he was sentenced to eight years behind bars on Monday in Britain.
On the behalf of the British convert Aine Leslie Davis, defense lawyer, Mark Summers, issued an apology to the Syrian people, saying, “The presence of him, those like him and the groups he associated with there, caused more harm than good.”
The 39-year-old Davis, who travelled to Syria in 2013, was jailed after he pleaded guilty in October for a firearms offence and terrorism funding charges.
In 2015, He was arrested in Turkey after being found using a forged travel document and was jailed for seven years and a half for joining the group in Syria.
Davis was deported from Turkey in August and detained on arrival at Luton airport.
Communications with his then-wife Amal El-Wahabi, who was left behind in London, disclosed the evidence for his conviction.
He enlisted El-Wahabi in a plan to send him a cash of €20,000 by hoodwinking her friend Nawal Masaad to act as a courier on the promise of a €1,000 payment.
Masaad was arrested at the Heathrow Airport on January 2014 with the money stuffed in her tights.
El-Wahabi was jailed for 28 months after found guilty of funding terrorism in Syria.
