SDF reveals identity of ISIS leader arrested in Syria’s Raqqa
RAQQA, Syria (North press) – On Saturday, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced that they have identified the identity and activity of a leader in the Islamic State (ISIS) they had arrested earlier in Raqqa Governorate, northern Syria.
On October 28, the SDF announced the arrest of an ISIS official in the city of Raqqa with the support of the US-led Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS.
The SDF Media Center said, “Earlier this year, our SDF counter-terrorism units (YAT) conducted a precise security operation in Raqqa city that resulted in the capture of one of the ISIS senior terrorists called Muhammad Sakhr al-Bakr, aka Khaled al-Shami.”
Al-Shami, who served as a deputy military commander within ISIS ranks and received eight injuries during ISIS battles, “played a key role in planning the attack on the al-Sinaa prison in Hasakah city in January 2022.”
“He emerged as a prominent figure in planning for terrorist acts targeting particularly the regions of north and eastern Syria,” according to the SDF statement.
