QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Amir Saeed Iravani, Permanent Representative of Iran to the UN, denied on Wednesday carrying out attacks against the US military bases in Syria and Iraq.
The representative made the statement at the UN as a response to a letter written by the US to the UN Security Council, accusing Iran of operating against its forces in Syria and Iraq.
On Nov. 6, Pentagon spokesperson Brig. Gen. Patrick Ryder said that 46 US troops have been injured in drone attacks on bases in Iraq and Syria since Oct. 17.
In the letter, Iran’s representative claimed that the US is attempting to legitimize its military actions in Syria.
He further viewed that the US’ claims are baseless and aim at justifying the “violation” of international laws and the UN Charter by the US in Syria.
Iravani called for the withdrawal of US troops from Syria and claimed that Iran’s presence in Syria is completely legal and based on an official request from the Syrian government.
On Tuesday, Pentagon deputy press secretary revealed that The US sent “two aircraft carrier strike groups, dozens of fighter jets, and a ballistic missile submarine” to the Middle East in a step to curb Iran from expanding the war between Israel and Hamas.
