Russian airstrikes target SNA sites in Syria’s Idlib

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) –  Russian Reconciliation Center for Syria affiliated with the Russian Ministry of Defense  announced late on Wednesday launching airstrikes on sites of the Turkish-backed armed opposition factions, aka the Syrian National Army (SNA) in the countryside of Idlib, northwestern Syria.

Deputy chief of the Center based in  Khmeimim Air Base, Vadim Kulit, said in a statement, “The Russian Aerospace Force delivered air strikes on sites of illegal armed formations involved in shelling the positions of the Syrian government forces.”

“A militant strongpoint and an underground shelter were hit in the areas of the settlements of Kansafra and Ein Shib in the Idlib province,” Kulit added.

In late October, the center announced targeting two underground hideouts of the SNA and warehouses for the drone parts in Idlib.

Although the de-escalation zone in northwest Syria is subject to a Russian-Turkish ceasefire agreement signed in March 2020, the area witnesses frequent mutual bombardment between Syrian government forces and opposition factions accompanied by Russian warplanes’ flight despite the entry of the ceasefire into force.

In March 2020, Russia and Turkey reached an agreement in Moscow that stipulated a ceasefire, the establishment of a safe corridor, and the conduct of joint patrols on the M4/Aleppo-Latakia Highway.
