AANES official urges to end Turkish attacks on Syria’s Kobani
KOBANI, Syria (North Press) – An official of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) urged on Wednesday the international community to stop the Turkish attacks on the city of Kobani, northern Syria, which stood against the Islamic State (ISIS) eight years ago.
On Nov. 1, 2014, a group of Kurdish fighters of the People’s Protection Units (YPG) and the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ), within a few neighborhoods in Kobani, were engaged in a fierce battle against ISIS, which had seized control of vast areas of the city. This prompted international and local organizations and figures to launch a global campaign in solidarity with the resistance in Kobani against ISIS.
Mizgin Khalil, co-chair of the Executive Council of the Autonomous Administration in Kobani, affiliated with AANES, called for an end to the ongoing Turkish attacks on Kobani, which successfully defeated the ISIS.
She told North Press during a celebration organized by the Executive Council to observe the World Kobani Day, “The world came together in support of Kobani after the courageous resistance demonstrated by the YPG and the YPJ against the brutality of ISIS.”
“We appeal to all global powers and human rights organizations to support and stand with Kobani against threats and attacks from Turkey, in order to protect the hard-won achievements that have been accomplished after thousands lost their lives,” Khalil added.
