Forum held in Qamishli discusses needs of victims in northern Syria
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Human rights organizations held on Friday the Second Annual Forum for the Victims in Northern Syria in the city of Qamishli, northeast Syria, with the aim to do justice to the victims of northern Syria, to disclose the fate of the missing, and to highlight the needs of the displaced.
The forum was held by Hevdesti/Synergy Association for Victims, Syrians for Truth and Justice, and DAR Association for Victims of Forced Displacement. It addressed the issue of the victims of the Turkish occupation of areas in northern Syria and the forced displacement.
The forum was attended by human rights activists, journalists, victims of displacement, and displaced people from the cities of Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) and Afrin.
Orhan Kamal, member at Synergy, said the forum aimed at enhancing the victims to represent and defend themselves at local and international tribunals.
Abdelwahab Birani, author and IDP from Sere Kaniye, said that the world keeps silent regarding the fate of the IDP camps. “The politicization of the IDP camps do not serve the humanitarian process of the United Nations.”
“The IDPs were subjected to violence and forced to leave their homes,” he told North Press. “They are in need of housing, health, education and living, so the humanitarian process must be superior to the political dealing.”
At the end, the forum discussed the mechanisms to achieve justice for the victims – locally and internationally. It made general recommendations to apply the mechanisms.
