Iraq’s Islamic Resistance claims attack on US base in Syria’s Shaddadi
HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – On Thursday, the Islamic Resistance of Iraq, affiliated with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), claimed responsibility for a rocket attack on a US base earlier in the day near the town of Shaddadi, northeastern Syria.
Earlier today, local sources informed North Press that two explosions were heard at the US-led Global Coalition base near Shaddadi, located 50 kilometers south of the city of Hasakah.
North Press could not obtain any information regarding human casualties. This attack is considered the second targeting of US bases in Hasakah Governorate in less than 24 hours.
On Wednesday, another US base near the town of Rmelan, northeastern Syria, was targeted with three rockets coming from Iraqi territory. The Islamic Resistance of Iraq has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Following the attack in Shaddadi, the sources reported that US forces promptly activated alarm sirens, deployed soldiers, and dispatched unmanned helicopters to the area.
The Washington Post reported on Wednesday, citing unnamed US officials, that US President Joe Biden is weighing striking Iranian proxies who have attacked US forces in Iraq and Syria.
