Israel hits military posts of government forces in Syria’s Daraa

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) stated early on Wednesday targeting military infrastructure of the Syrian government forces in Daraa Governorate, southern Syria, in response to attacks launched towards Israel the day before.

The IDF said in a statement posted on the social media platform X (previously Twitter), “In response to rocket launches from Syria toward Israel yesterday, IDF fighter jets struck military infrastructure and mortar launchers belonging to the Syrian Army.”

The Syrian state-run SANA news agency cited an unnamed military source as saying that “Around 01:45 am on Wednesday the Israeli enemy carried out an aerial aggression launched from the direction of the occupied Golan Heights targeting several of our military posts in the countryside of Daraa [southern Syria].”

The source added that the attacks killed eight Syrian soldiers and wounded seven others, in addition to causing material damages.

On Oct. 12, Israel launched airstrikes on Damascus and Aleppo international airports, knocking them out of service.

Later on Oct. 22, Israeli airstrikes hit both Damascus and Aleppo international airports for the second time after they resumed operations, causing material damage to the runways at both airports and putting them out of service.

Israel frequently targets suspected positions of Iranian-backed militias in Syria in what appears to be an effort to curb their movement amid fears the Israel-Hamas conflict would escalate into a wider regional turmoil.
