Girl, father injured by Turkish border guards in Syria’s Idlib
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – On Tuesday, Turkish border guards shot and injured a father and his daughter as they were attempting to cross the border into Turkey. In addition, the border guards arrested 12 other individuals who were accompanying the injured people in the western countryside of Idlib Governorate, northwestern Syria.
Recently, there has been a spike in incidents of shootings and arrests by Turkish border guards targeting Syrians seeking to escape the war and worsening living conditions by crossing into Turkish territory with the aim of reaching Europe. These attempts often fail due to the heightened border control measures implemented by the Turkish authorities and their use of force against these individuals.
A military source in a faction of the Turkish-backed Syrian National Army (SNA) stated to North Press, “Turkish border guards opened fire on 14 Syrian individuals as they approached the border wall in an attempt to reach Turkey.”
The source further said that the shooting resulted in “the injury of 6-year-old Rama al-Hussein, and her 31-year-old father Ayoub al-Hussein.”
He added that the both of them were detained by the Turkish border guards, noting there have been no reports regarding their current health condition. Meanwhile, the 12 other Syrians were taken to a detention center near the city of Harem, northern Idlib.
The source said that the Turkish border guards opened fire on the Syrians without issuing any warning to retreat when they reached the border wall.
