Syria, Lebanon FMs seek cooperation to Syrian refugee repatriation

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – On Monday, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of Syria Faisal Mekdad and his Lebanese counterpart Abdallah Bou Habib emphasized the importance of initiating joint cooperation to ensure the repatriation of Syrian refugees currently residing in Lebanon back to Syria.

Accompanied by a delegation comprising several high-ranking military officials and ministers, Bou Habib conducted an official visit to Damascus, which included a meeting with Mekdad.

The objective of this visit was to address the challenges associated with the crisis of the Syrian refugees in Lebanon.

They also emphasized the importance for the international community and the UN and its agencies to assume their responsibilities in assisting with the return of Syrian refugees to their country and working towards achieving this goal.

Mekdad elaborated the measures taken by the Syrian government over the past years, including recent efforts, to restore security, stability, and facilitate the return of refugees to Syria.

The Syrian minister also added that “Syria welcomes the return of refugees and spares no effort in cooperation with friendly countries and partners in humanitarian work to achieve this.”

Bou Habib expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the efforts and measures taken by the Syrian government regarding the issue of refugee return.

The Lebanese minister added that they agreed to hold coordination sub-meetings at the level of officials and experts to follow up on issues related to the return of Syrian refugees, border control, exchange of convicted individuals, and other matters of mutual interest.
