Lawyer reveals Turkey deports Syrian refugees under false signatures

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press)  – A Turkish lawyer revealed on Sunday that Turkish authorities forcibly deported dozens of Syrian refugees based on false signatures on applications of voluntary return to Syria.

Mustafa Wafa, a Turkish lawyer working in refugee affairs, said Turkish authorities deported about 40 Syrian refugees detained in security operations in Turkish cities in early October based on false signatures on applications of voluntary return to Syria, according to the Turkish website Artı Gerçek.

On Oct. 21, Turkish authorities forcibly deported more than 520 Syrians, including women and children, through the Bab al-Salama, Tel Abyad, and Bab al-Hawa border crossings in northern Syria, bringing up the number of deported Syrian refugees to more than 9,000 in October.

The Immigration and Asylum Centre of the Şanlıurfa Bar Association revealed violations against Syrian refugees’ rights in both the Directorate of Immigration and the state deportation center, according to the Turkish website.

Turkish authorities continue to deport Syrian refugees under the name of “voluntary return.”
