AANES hands over 83 individuals of ISIS families to Kyrgyztan

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – On Sunday, the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) handed over 83 individuals, including 62 children and 21 women, of the families of the Islamic State (ISIS) militants to the Kyrgyz Republic.

The Foreign Relations Department of the AANES said, in a statement, that the handover process took place during a meeting that brought together a delegation of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Foreign Relations Department.

The delegation, led by Bakit Kadyrov, a representative of the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry, and the accompanying members, was received by Deputy Co-chairs of Foreign Relations Department Fenar al-Kait, Administrative Council member Khalid Ibrahim, and Lana Hussein, a representative of the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ).

The two sides discussed the latest developments in the region. “The Turkish attacks on the AANES’s areas systematically destroy all livelihoods, aiming to displace millions of the region’s residents and turn them into refugees”, al-Kait said.

From Oct.5 to 9, Turkey attacked 104 sites in northern and northeastern Syria, including vital infrastructure such as power, gas, and water stations and educational facilities, with more than 580 air and ground strikes.

He pointed out that the region has become a disaster-stricken area, which is a violation of international treaties and laws, especially the Geneva Convention.

Kadyrov, in turn, said that Kyrgyz Republic acknowledged the sacrifices made by the AANES and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the fight against ISIS.

Roj and Hawl camps in northeast Syria, run by the SDF and the AANES, house around 57,300 ISIS-linked individuals, including nearly 10,000 foreigners.

Tens of thousands of women and children of ISIS families from about 60 countries are still in these two camps.
