SNA attacks homeowner in Syria’s Afrin after demanding seized house back
AFRIN, Syria (North Press) – Militants of a Turkish-backed opposition faction of the Syrian National Army (SNA) attacked on Saturday the owner of a house in the town of Jindires in the countryside of Afrin, northwestern Syria, after he demanded his seized house back.
According to statistics recorded by the Monitoring and Documentation Department of North Press, SNA factions have seized 43 houses in Afrin since the beginning of 2023.
Eyewitnesses told North Press that the owner of a house seized by militants of the SNA faction of Ahrar al-Sharqiya in the town of Jindires wanted to reclaim his house after being deported to Afrin from Turkey with his family by Turkish authorities earlier this month.
They added that the militants who seized the house brutally beat up the owner, telling him that the house now belongs to them.
The eyewitnesses said that after receiving medical treatment at a hospital, the homeowner went to the SNA’s Military Police in Jindires and filed a complaint about the incident, but they said that they could not intervene in the matter.
Afrin has been under the occupation of Turkey and the SNA factions since 2018 following a military operation dubbed ‘Olive Branch’ against the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) under the pretext of protecting Turkey’s national security.
The operation caused the displacement of about 300,000 of the original inhabitants of the Kurds of Afrin who have been taking shelter in 42 villages and five camps in Aleppo northern countryside, locally known as Shahba region, since then.
