Unknown gunmen kill 2 soldiers from government forces in Syria’s Homs
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Unknown attackers targeted on Sunday night a patrol of the Syrian government forces in the countryside of Homs, central Syria. The clash led to the killing of two Syrian soldiers and one of the attackers.
A military source within the government forces told North Press that unidentified gunmen attacked a patrol of the Division 17 affiliated with the government forces at the entrance to the city of Palmyra in eastern Homs. Clashes between the attackers and soldiers from the patrol followed and lasted for about half an hour.
The attack resulted in the killing of two soldiers and one of the attackers who did not carry any identification papers. The attackers were forced to retreat after running out of ammunition.
In a related context, a farmer was killed on Saturday by unknown gunmen in the village of Ruwayshid in northern Deir ez-Zor.
A resident in Ruwayshid told North Press that unidentified gunmen riding a motorcycle shot at the farmer Makhalaf al-Zubri, near a gas station, killing him immediately.
Unidentified militants continue to target patrols and posts of the government forces in the desert of Homs, amid increasing activity of the Islamic State group “ISIS.”
