Over 9,000 Syrian refugees deported from Turkey in October
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – On Saturday, Turkish authorities deported more than 520 Syrians, including women and children, through the Bab al-Salama, Tel Abyad, and Bab al-Hawa crossings in northern Syria, bringing up the number of Syrian refugees deported to more than 9,000 in October.
Sources at the three crossings told North Press that, upon deportation, the 520 Syrians were handed over factions of the Turkish-backed Syrian National Army (SNA) at these crossings.
A source at the Tel Abyad crossing said that approximately 40 Syrians were handed over to SNA factions at the crossing, adding they were transferred to centers for investigation.
Another source at the Bab al-Salama crossing said that about 210 people who were handed over to the SNA’s Military Police at the crossing, the majority of whom were women and children. They were taken to security centers for investigation.
As for Bab al-Hawa crossing, according to a third source, the Turkish authorities handed over 270 people, including women and children, to Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) at the crossing.
In September, the Turkish authorities forcibly deported more than 13,000 Syrians to northern Syria.
Turkish authorities continue to deport Syrian refugees under the name of “voluntary return.”
