SNA to evacuate camps from quake-affected people in Syria’s Jindires

AFRIN, Syria (North Press) – The Turkish-backed armed opposition factions, aka the Syrian National Army (SNA), notified, on Saturday, the residents of one of the earthquake-affected camps near the town of Jindires in the Afrin countryside, northwest Syria, of the necessity to evacuate their tents.

Following the earthquake disaster that struck Syria in February, hundreds of families have been living in tents due to the destruction of their homes as a result of the earthquake, especially in Jindires.

A source from the Local Council of Jindires stated that Sultan Suleiman Shah Division, aka al-Amshat, affiliated with SNA, informed 160 families to evacuate tents within 72 hours, claiming that the tents belong to the Division. They considered that the purpose of their presence was due to the earthquake disaster, which has ended a long time ago.

The source told North Press that the camp residents filed complaints with the council, however, the council administration refused to intervene, fearing the leadership of al-Amshat Division.

With the approach of winter, it is expected that the SNA factions will evacuate more than 500 tents in which displaced families reside in the Afrin countryside, according to the source.

Afrin has been under the occupation of Turkey and the SNA factions since 2018 following a military operation dubbed “Olive Branch” against the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) under the pretext of preserving Turkey’s national security.

The operation caused the displacement of about 300,000 of the original inhabitants of the Kurds of Afrin who have been taking shelter in 42 villages and five camps in Aleppo northern countryside, locally known as Shahba region, since then.
