2 civilians killed, 3 government soldiers injured in Syria’s Daraa

DARAA, Syria (North Press) – Two civilians were killed and three soldiers of the Syrian government forces were injured on Saturday in various areas of Daraa Governorate, southern Syria.

A local source told North Press that Muhammad Ahmed Kiwan was killed as a result of being shot in the head accidentally in the city of Tafas, west of Daraa.

The source added that Kiwan used to work in selling fuel in the center of the city of Tafas and was shot during clashes between two young men due to a dispute that escalated to using firearms.

The source mentioned that another civilian, Hani Ahmed Qanah, was killed when a grenade explosion that he discovered while working in olive picking in the al-Khawabi area, south of the city of Daraa.

A military source from the Syrian government forces told North Press that “three soldiers of the Syrian government forces were injured after their military vehicle was targeted with an IED in the eastern countryside of Daraa.”

The source added that a lieutenant officer and two soldiers of the government forces’ Air Force Intelligence were injured in the attack which took place near the town of Kherbet Ghazala, east of Daraa.

The source further noted that the injured were transported to the National Hospital of Daraa via ambulances that arrived in the area minutes after the explosion.

The Syrian government forces have sent reinforcements to the targeted area and closed the Damascus-Daraa road. They have checked for personal identification cards and searched vehicles at their checkpoints.

This is the second operation within two days, as the government Military Security Forces branch chief in the town of Shajarah, west of Daraa, was injured two days ago as a result of his car being targeted by an IED.
