Turkey stresses continuation of attacks on Syria, Iraq
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Turkey’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hakan Fidan, said on Wednesday Turkey would continue carrying out attacks on northern Syria and Iraq.
Fidan stated to reporters at the Turkish Foreign Ministry in Ankara should any attacks occur in Turkey from now on, it will target areas in northern Syria and Iraq under the pretext of fighting a “terrorist organization.”
From Oct.5 to Oct. 9, Turkey attacked 104 sites in northern and northeastern Syria, including vital infrastructure such as power, gas, and water stations and educational facilities, with more than 580 air and ground strikes, according to a statement by the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES).
On Wednesday, the AANES emphasized in a statement the necessity of conducting an open, impartial, and transparent investigation into Turkey’s practices in their regions by specialized international committees.
The AANES demanded “all those responsible for the destruction and targeting of our people’s livelihoods and causing our children to lose their lives be brought before specialized courts.”
“Turkey commits war crimes in our areas and such acts should not be tolerated,” the statement added.
