“Timid” global stances fell short of needed level – AANES official

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – An official of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) stated on Wednesday the international stances towards the Turkish attacks on northeastern Syria were “timid.”

Khaled Ibrahim, an official at the Foreign Relations Department of the AANES, told North Press the international positions, in comparison to the planning and implementation of these attacks against vital and strategic facilities and targets, fell short of the needed ethical and human rights level of the international community. He described their stance as “unclear and timid.”

Ibrahim stressed that “even though the international community definitely oppose the Turkish attacks but in reality, we need to see clear and practical stances to stop these hostilities in order to resolve the Syrian crisis in general.”

From Oct. 5 to Oct. 9, Turkey launched 356 airstrikes, artillery shells, and drone strikes on 264 sites in northeastern Syria, hitting gas, water, electricity, and oil  installations, infrastructure facilities, and residential areas.

The number of civilian casualties reached 24 people, nine of whom were killed, and 15 others were injured.

Following these attacks, representatives of the AANES in Europe met with European parliamentarians to discuss the gravity of these attacks and their impact on the stability of areas in northeastern Syria, which the Islamic State (ISIS) would take advantage and launch attacks on the region, according to the official website of the AANES.
