Iran’s IRGC evacuates posts in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and Iranian-backed militias evacuated on Friday their posts in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria. The militias are on high alert status in areas west of the Euphrates River for the past 48 hours for unknown reasons.
Since early October, unidentified warplanes carried out three attacks on border crossings, logistic warehouses and headquarters of the Iranian-backed militias in the city of Deir ez-Zor, al-Mayadin, al-Asharah, and Abu Kamal, resulting in human and material losses.
A military source within the Syrian government forces said the IRGC evacuated three posts near the Euphrates River in the town of Abu Kamal and handed them over to the government forces. They also evacuated a post near al-Shifaa Hospital in al-Asharah and a post on the bank of the Euphrates in the town of al-Mayadin.
The source told North Press that the IRGC relocated its militants towards the city of Palmyra in central Syria, following “strict security measures.”
On Oct. 6, the IRGC transferred its militants and weapons from headquarters to outside of Deir ez-Zor using vehicles of the Syrian government forces.
The source noted, these movements are carried out using vehicles that pass through civilian neighborhoods to avoid airstrikes.
