Jordan thwarts captagon smuggling attempt from Syria

ERBIL, Iraq, KRI (North Press) – Jordanian border guards foiled on Saturday an attempt to smuggle narcotics from Syrian territories to Jordan.

The Jordanian forces announced the thwarting of an attempt to infiltrate and smuggle large quantities of drugs coming from Syrian territories during an operation carried out on Friday.

An official from the Jordanian forces’ command stated that the operation was coordinated between the Border Guard forces, the Anti-Narcotics Administration, and the military security agencies.

Jordan regularly reports seizing amounts of captagon and various types of drugs. The Jordanian army occasionally declares thwarting attempts to smuggle drugs from Syrian territory.

The statement did not include any details about the quantity that was intercepted, except that it was an attempt to illegally cross the border from Syria to Jordan.

The Jordanian Eastern Command stated that direct shooting was employed in accordance with the rules of engagement against the smugglers, leading to their escape into Syrian territory.

The military statement, reported by the official al-Mamlaka Channel, mentioned that the seized items were handed over to the relevant authorities.

On Sep. 27, The Jordanian military announced that it had intercepted two drones transporting narcotics from Syria, which has raised concerns over the growing smuggling activities along the border.
