QAMISHLI – KOBANI, Syria (North Press) – Turkey targeted on Sunday evening several oil fields, areas, towns, and villages in northeastern Syria using aircraft and artillery shells, causing significant material damage.
Eyewitnesses told North Press that “Turkish warplanes targeted the oil fields of Gerdahol and Awda in the vicinity of the town of Tirbe Spiyeh (al-Qahtaniya), in addition to shelling the surroundings of Tel Jihan with artillery.”
The “Turkish warplanes also targeted a center of the Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish) in the village of Hamza Bek, in the city of Derik (al-Malikiyah), northeast Syria, resulting in injuries,” according to a security source.
Additionally, local sources from the city of Kobani, north Syria, informed North Press that “an artillery shelling hit the village of Quran, east of Kobani, and another shelling targeted a post for the Syrian government forces in the village of Tel Sha’ir, west of Kobani.”
On Oct. 5, the Turkish army launched drone strikes on infrastructure facilities in several areas of north and northeast Syria that is run by the AANES. The strikes took place following a statement by Turkey’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hakan Fidan, in which he threatened to strike a broader range of targets in Syria and Iraq in retaliation for the Ankara attack.
On Oct. 1, two individuals carried out a bomb attack in front of the building of the Ministry of Interior in Turkey’s Ankara injuring two police officers.
On Oct. 4, Fidan claimed that the two attackers had been trained in Syria. “From now on, all infrastructure, large facilities and energy facilities belonging to (armed Kurdish groups) in Iraq and Syria are legitimate targets for our security forces,” he threatened.
