Syrian-Russian air raids on opposition-held areas cause displacement  

IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – Russian fighter jets renewed on Friday air raids on opposition-held areas in Idlib and Hama governorates in northwest Syria, and the Syrian government forces continued shelling several areas causing casualties and displacement.

The Turkish-backed opposition-held areas in northwest Syria have been severely targeted by the government artillery and Russian fighter jets following drone strikes that hit the Syrian government’s Homs Military Academy where families were gathered with the new officers and led to the death of 89 and the injury of 227 according to the Ministry of Health.

On Thursday night, three civilians including a child were killed and seven others were wounded as a result of a missile and artillery attack by the government forces on the opposition-held town of Darat Izza in the west of Aleppo.

The latest toll of the casualties mounted to 15 killings and more than 70 injuries according to reports.

Russian fighter jets bombed on Friday morning villages in the vicinity of the city of Jisr al-Shughur, west of Idlib, killing a child and injuring three civilians, an opposition source told North Press.

The government forces shelled the town of Sarmin and other towns and villages in the south and east of Idlib.

Local sources said, the escalation led to the displacement of scores of families. 

Idlib Governorate and parts of the Hama and Aleppo are held by the Turkish-backed opposition known as the Syrian Interim Government, the political wing of the Syrian National Army (SNA). The city of Idlib is controlled by the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS, formerly al-Nusra Front) and its political wing of the Salvation Government.
