Turkish drones hit 52 sites in NE Syria in one day
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Turkish drones attacked on Thursday 52 sites in north and northeast Syria leaving 20 casualties and causing severe damage to energy, power, water, and oil facilities.
On Thursday, Turkish army launched drone strikes on the infrastructure in several areas of north and northeast Syria that is run by the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES). The strikes took place following a statement by Turkey’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hakan Fidan, in which he threatened to strike a broader range of targets in Syria and Iraq in retaliation for the Ankara attack.
Monitoring and Documentation Department of North Press documented that the Turkish drones hit 52 sites including 19 infrastructure facilities, 22 residential buildings, 11 military positions (5 of which are of the Syrian government forces).
The strikes led to the death of 11 people including four civilians and the injury of seven others (five civilians and two soldiers of the government forces).
On Oct. 1, two individuals carried out a bomb attack in front of the building of the Ministry of Interior in Ankara injuring two police officers.
On Oct. 4, Fidan claimed that the two assailants who carried out the attack had been trained in Syria. “From now on, all infrastructure, large facilities and energy facilities belonging to (armed Kurdish groups) in Iraq and Syria are legitimate targets for our security forces,” he threatened.
The Turkish drone strikes targeted 52 sites distributed as follows: 19 in Qamishli, 14 in Aleppo northern countryside, 12 in Hasakah, three in Kobani, three in Derik (al-Malikiyah), and one in Ain Issa.
The strikes led to complete power outage in the main cities of Qamishli, Hasakah, and Derik (al-Malikiyah).
