Mazloum Abdi rejects Turkish allegations of attackers trained in Syria

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Commander in Chief of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) Mazloum Abdi firmly dismissed on Wednesday the claims of Turkish officials that the assailants behind Ankara’s attack had received training in Syria.

Abdi said on X platform that the attackers have not “passed through our region as Turkish officials claim, and we are not party to Turkey’s internal conflict nor we encourage escalation.”

A few hours before, Turkey’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan claimed that the two assailants who carried out the attack had been trained in Syria, and threatened that his country had reserved the right to strike a broader range of Kurdish targets in Syria and Iraq in retaliation for the attack.

On Oct. 1, Turkey’s Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said that two “terrorists” carried out a bomb attack in front of the ministry buildings in Ankara.

Turkey is trying to legitimize its ongoing attacks on SDF-held areas and to launch a new military aggression against the region, according to Abdi.

The SDF commander in Chief said that those threats are a “war crime.”

Abdi called on the guarantor parties and the international community to “take appropriate positions to these frequent threats and to ensure peace and stability in the region.”
